What are the MCC Examination Objectives?
The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) Examination Objectives describe the attributes expected of medical graduates entering residency in Canada. They are our guide when developing questions for the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I and the National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Examination.
How are the objectives organized?
The objectives are organized by physician role as defined by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons’ CanMEDS (Canadian Medical Education Directives for Specialists) framework. This framework is used extensively in Canada and recognized worldwide. The role definitions have been modified to meet the expectations and purposes of the MCC examinations.

Under the medical expert role, the objectives are further organized by:
- Clinical presentation/diagnosis
- Population health and its determinants
- Ethics, legal, and organizational aspects of medicine
Each objective details what is expected of a Canadian physician. When preparing for MCC examinations, it is important to go through each role and associated objectives and carefully read the related key and enabling objectives. If you feel your knowledge or skill for any objective is weak, this may indicate that you require further study in that area.

Universities and other institutions can use an online web service to search and retrieve MCC Examination Objectives content, including physician roles and clinical presentations/diagnoses. For example, this service gives universities and other institutions the ability to incorporate references to the objectives in their own automated systems.
