2024 MCC Awards – Call for nominations

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for its four distinguished awards. The awards recognize the achievements and contributions of individuals and advance research and development in the field of medical education and assessment.

Dr. W. Dale Dauphinee Award for Excellence in Medical Education

In honour of Dr. Dauphinee’s many years of service as the MCC’s Executive Director and Registrar and in support of his commitment to learning, this prize is awarded to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated excellence in medical education within the schools of medicine in Canada. We encourage each school to discuss internally the nominations to be submitted as each school can submit only two nomination letters: one for a medical student and one for a resident. The letters of nomination must be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than April 30, 2024.

Dr. M. Ian Bowmer Award for Leadership in Social Accountability

In honour of Dr. Bowmer’s many years of service as the MCC’s Executive Director and Registrar and in the spirit of his advocacy work, this prize is awarded to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated leadership in social accountability within the schools of medicine in Canada. We encourage each school to discuss internally the nominations to be submitted as each school can submit only 2 nomination letters: one for a medical student and one for a resident. The letters of nomination must be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than April 30, 2024.

Dr. Maureen Topps Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Assessment of Clinical Competence

Renamed in honour of Dr. Maureen Topps, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the MCC from 2018 to 2023, this recognition is awarded to an individual or group who demonstrates sustained excellence in Canadian health care and/or health care research. This award is unique in that its nominees and recipients come from a broad range of health disciplines, such as dentistry, physical therapy, and medical practice. Nominations may be made by an individual or organization knowledgeable in assessment procedures within the health care professions and faculties of medicine/health sciences in Canada. A nomination letter must be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than April 30, 2024.

Dr. Louis Levasseur Award for Distinguished Service

Presented to a Council, staff, or committee member, past or present, or to a person whose collaboration has contributed in an extraordinary manner to the mission and vision of the MCC. The recipient embodies an unwavering commitment to the objectives and principles of Council. Nominations may be made by past or present members of the MCC, members of its constituent bodies or staff. The nomination letter and two letters of reference from individuals who are knowledgeable of the MCC’s vision and mission and of the contribution of the candidate to those ends must be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than April 30, 2024.
