On August 18 at 4:00 p.m., ET, join Dr. Maxim Morin, executive director of Assessment with the MCC, and Dr. Debra Pugh, physician and medical education advisor with the MCC, as they unpack what MCC examinations are designed to measure, how they fit within the main pathways to licensure in Canada, and how results are used — both to confirm a standard of competency and, in competitive pathways, as part of selection decisions.

Dr. Maxim Morin, Executive Director, Assessment, Medical Council of Canada
Dr. Maxim Morin is the executive director of Assessment at the MCC. Prior to this role, Dr. Morin held various positions within the MCC, where he helped create innovative solutions for complex assessment and psychometric problems. He has also worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the Université de Montréal, where he taught courses on classroom assessment and quantitative methods. Dr. Morin earned his Ph.D. in mesure et évaluation en éducation from the Université de Montréal.

Dr. Debra Pugh, Physician and Associate Professor, University of Ottawa, and Medical Education Advisor, Medical Council of Canada
Dr. Debra Pugh is an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and is a general internist in the Department of Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital. She currently serves as the medical education advisor for the MCC. She has a master’s degree in health professions education from the University of Illinois at Chicago and conducts research in the field of assessment. She has experience in developing high-stakes examinations for the MCC as well as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
