Core TDM Examination topics

These core Therapeutics Decision-Making (TDM) Examination topics represent common and important areas of medicine that family physicians encounter. The TDM Examination assesses a candidate’s ability to manage these presentations at the level of a family physician practising in Canada.

This list of topics is used to guide the development of exam content within the framework of the TDM Blueprint, which includes two broad categories: Therapeutic Interventions (i.e., pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic) and Dimensions of Care (i.e., health promotion and illness prevention, acute, chronic, and safety and adverse effects). The TDM Examination includes content that represents a range of age groups (i.e., pediatric, adult, older adult) and genders. While the TDM Examination includes content that reflects the full range of topics listed below, not every topic will appear on every exam. Topics are represented in proportions that reflect their relative frequency and importance in Canadian family practice, so some topics may appear more often on the examination.

Although many examples are provided, the lists are not exhaustive.
