Introduction of Application for medical registration fee on April 1, 2016

February 17, 2016

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) will be implementing the MCC Application for Medical Registration (AMR) fee starting April 1, 2016. As of that date, candidates using the AMR through their physiciansapply.ca account will be charged $195 per submission. When the AMR was launched in February 2014, the fee was initially waived to ensure fairness between those candidates who applied through the AMR process in physiciansapply.ca, and those who applied to other jurisdictions using a separate process. The MCC will introduce the fee on April 1, 2016 to align with its new fiscal year. The fee will allow the MCC to continue to make improvements to the application process, and to maintain the AMR beyond the initial regulatory authority onboarding period. It is expected that nine jurisdictions will be using the AMR by December 2016. As more regulatory authorities adopt the AMR process, candidates will benefit by having more flexibility, as they will be able to apply to multiple jurisdictions at the same time using this common application process.
