How to schedule your appointment

Your Practice-Ready Assessment (PRA) program will notify you once your application is accepted. The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) will send you a message through your physiciansapply.ca account, which will include your Authorization to Test (ATT) number. This message will also include the instructions on how to schedule your examination and when the scheduling period will begin.

You must schedule your appointment online on the Prometric website. You may schedule your appointment up to 5 days (120 hours) before the day of the exam. You will need your ATT number (eligibility number).

Scheduling is available on a first-come, first-served basis at available Prometric test centres across Canada and worldwide, or through the option of remote proctoring with Prometric’s ProProctor system. The MCC will not facilitate the scheduling or rescheduling of your exam appointment. Appointments are only available within the established exam sessions.

Scheduling a remote-proctoring appointment

Before scheduling a remote-proctoring appointment, complete the ProProctor minimum system requirements check to verify if the device/network intended for your exam appointment meets the minimum system and bandwidth requirements for ProProctor. If you schedule a remote-proctoring appointment and attempt to sign-in for your exam with a device that does not meet the minimum system requirements for ProProctor, you will not be permitted to take the exam and your exam fees will be forfeited.

French remote-proctoring appointment

If you want to schedule a French remote proctoring appointment and receive French speaking assistance during the exam, you must be a candidate for l’examen lié à la prise de décisions thérapeutiques (PDT) (i.e., chose to take the TDM Examination in French) and select appointments that start at 8:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time (ET). French Proctors and technical support staff are available to assist French candidates through the chat function from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

Booking in alternate time zones

Exam appointments are offered in different time zones to accommodate candidates writing the exam remotely worldwide. You can choose appointments in a time zone other than your own. You should check the time zone of your appointment when scheduling and in your booking confirmation, to ensure you do not miss your exam.

How to book if you have been granted test accommodations

If you have been granted test accommodations, contact Prometric’s special needs booking line for your geographic region to schedule your exam appointment. Please do not attempt to schedule online as exam appointments with test accommodations beyond a separate room must be scheduled by telephone.

Your 16-digit confirmation number

Once you have scheduled your exam appointment with Prometric, they will send you a 16-digit confirmation number and provide you with additional steps by email. Please keep a record of this number, as you will need it to reschedule/cancel your appointment or to view the details of your appointment on the Prometric website.

How to reschedule or cancel your appointment

You can cancel or attempt to reschedule your appointment online on the Prometric website, up to 5 days (120 hours) before the day of the exam. Depending on when you cancel or reschedule, different fees will apply. You will need the 16-digit confirmation number you received when you first scheduled your appointment. The MCC will not facilitate the rescheduling or scheduling of the exam appointment.

Up to 120 hours before the exam

Up to 5 days (120 hours) before the exam, candidates can:

  • Cancel their exam
  • Pending availability, attempt to reschedule their exam to a different test centre, from an exam test centre to a remotely-proctored exam, or from a remotely-proctored exam to a test centre
    • To reschedule, first cancel the current exam appointment and then schedule a new appointment

Up to 30 days before your exam appointment

If you reschedule or cancel your appointment up to 30 days before your exam appointment, you will be required to pay $50 (CAD) + HST to Prometric.

Fewer than 30 days before your exam appointment

If you reschedule or cancel your appointment, less than 30 days before the exam date, you will be required to pay $85 (CAD) + HST to Prometric.

Fewer than 120 hours before the exam

If you do not attend your exam appointment, or if you cancel your appointment fewer than 120 hours (5 days) before the day of your exam, your application fees will be forfeited.
