Scheduling

Your PRA program will notify you once your application is accepted. The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) will send you a message through your physiciansapply.ca account which will include your Authorization to Test (ATT) number. This message will also include the instructions on how to schedule your examination and when the scheduling period will begin.

  • You must schedule your appointment online on the Prometric website. You will need your ATT number (Eligibility number) that the MCC provided through the message section of your physiciansapply.ca account. To schedule online, see the step-by-step instructions on how to use the Prometric website.
  • If you have been granted test accommodations, contact Prometric’s special needs booking line for your geographic region to schedule your exam appointment. Please do not attempt to schedule online as exam appointments with test accommodations must be scheduled by telephone.

Scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis. While there are 13 Prometric test centres across Canada, we cannot guarantee availability at any specific test centre.

Once you have scheduled your exam appointment with Prometric, they will send you a 16-digit confirmation number and provide you with additional steps by email. Please keep a record of this number, as you will need it to reschedule/cancel your appointment or to view the details of your appointment on the Prometric website.

How to reschedule or cancel your appointment during COVID-19?

If you need to reschedule into a different test centre than the one from your original appointment confirmation email, you can attempt to do so, pending availability, up to five days (120 hours) before the day of the exam. If you reschedule or cancel your appointment up to 30 days before the exam date, you will need to pay a USD $25 fee to Prometric. If you reschedule or cancel your appointment less than 30 days before the exam date, you will need to pay a USD $50 fee to Prometric.

Appointments cannot be rescheduled fewer than five days (120 hours) before the day of your exam: if you cannot attend your exam, or if you cancel your appointment with fewer than 120 hours before the exam, your examination fee will be forfeited. For more information, see our policy on withdrawals.

Note: Test accommodations must be programmed with Prometric before an exam appointment is scheduled. If you request test accommodations after your exam application has been accepted and if you have already scheduled your exam appointment, you may be instructed to cancel your existing exam appointment. Once the process is complete, you will be invited to reschedule your appointment at an available test centre which can support the delivery of the test accommodations.

Please refer to Prometric’s Test Centre Policies for important arrival and check-in rules and procedures related to COVID-19.

Due to the current pandemic context, the examination date is subject to change. While we will make every effort to deliver the exam on the scheduled date, we may need to cancel or change the date of the exam for reasons outside of our control. To ensure the safety of all exam participants, and due to the evolving pandemic environment, local or national public health or other restrictions, such cancellation or date change could happen at any time, up to and including the day of the exam. In such an event, candidates’ application fees will not be impacted. However, the MCC will not be responsible for any costs, fees, penalties or losses that candidates might incur (e.g., relating to travel, childcare or wages) as a result of cancellation or date change that occurs due to matters that are out of the control of the MCC.
