Announcing the 2024 MCC awards recipients | Medical Council of Canada

The Medical Council of Canada is pleased to announce the 2024 recipients of its four distinguished awards. The awards recognize the achievements and contributions of individuals and advance research and development in the field of medical education and assessment.

Dr. W. Dale Dauphinee Award for Excellence in Medical Education

In support of Dr. Dauphinee’s commitment to learning, this award is given to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated excellence in medical education within the schools of medicine in Canada.

The award recipients for 2024 are Dr. Elysia Grose and Mr. Gautham Krishnaraj.

Dr. M. Ian Bowmer Award for Leadership in Social Accountability

In the spirit of Dr. Bowmer’s advocacy work, this award is given to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated leadership in social accountability within the schools of medicine in Canada.

The award recipients for 2024 are Dr. Betel (Betty) Yibrehu and Ms. Aditi Sivakumar.

Dr. Maureen Topps Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Assessment of Clinical Competence

This distinction is awarded to an individual or group demonstrating sustained excellence in Canadian health care and/or health care research. Its recipients are the people who ensure our health care professionals meet the high standards that Canadians enjoy and expect. This award is unique in that its nominees and recipients come from a broad range of health disciplines.

The award recipient for 2024 is Dr. Timothy J. Wood.

Dr. Louis Levasseur Award for Distinguished Service

This award is presented to a Council, staff, or committee member of the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), past or present, or to a person whose collaboration has contributed in an extraordinary manner to the vision and mission of the MCC. The recipient embodies an unwavering commitment to the objectives and principles of Council.

The award recipient for 2024 is Dr. Isabelle Desjardins.
