The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I is offered multiple times a year. Results will be available approximately 8 weeks after each session’s last day.
*Due to a standard-setting exercise, the results for the April 2025 session will be available approximately 12 weeks after the last day of the session.
Dates are subject to change.
Application for the MCCQE Part I is on an ongoing basis. After your application is accepted, you will receive a message through your physiciansapply.ca account confirming that you are eligible to take the MCCQE Part I.
Appointments may be scheduled 5 months prior to the start of an exam session, and are only available within the established exam sessions. Scheduling an appointment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Exceptionally, scheduling for the April-May 2025 session will open 3 to 4 months prior to the start of the session.
A specific MCCQE Part I session date cannot be guaranteed. If you have a deadline to meet for receiving your MCCQE Part I results, we strongly recommend taking the exam early enough to allow for unforeseeable circumstances. If there is no date available at your preferred test centre or through remote proctoring, please choose another date or test centre.
You must schedule your appointment online on the Prometric website that will walk you through the entire process in an easy-to-understand way. Before accessing the scheduling system, we recommend reviewing the instructions in advance and ensuring you have all the information needed to schedule your appointment.
Please note that test centres have adequate network and devices, and Prometric staff are available onsite to provide support in troubleshooting any issues.
At times, Prometric may need to cancel a test centre appointment due to unforeseen circumstances. If your appointment is cancelled, you may reschedule either into a test centre or a remotely proctored exam, pending availability. If your appointment is cancelled or rescheduled, Prometric will send you an email as soon as possible with information on the next steps.
Before scheduling a remote proctoring appointment, complete the ProProctor minimum system requirements check to verify if the device/network intended for your exam appointment meets the minimum system and bandwidth requirements for ProProctor. If you schedule a remote proctoring appointment and attempt to sign-in for your exam with a device that does not meet the minimum system requirements for ProProctor, you will not be permitted to take the exam and your exam fees will be forfeited.

For more details about system requirements, please consult the ProProctor user guide. You can also visit Prometric’s ProProctor help page to consult their FAQs and the Common technical issues section.
If you want to schedule a French remote proctoring appointment and receive French speaking assistance during the exam, you must be a candidate for l’examen d’aptitude du Conseil médical du Canada (EACMC), partie I (i.e., chose to take the MCCQE Part I in French), and select appointments that start at 8:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time (ET) Tuesday through Saturday. French proctors and technical support staff are available to assist French candidates through the chat function from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
Exam appointments are offered in different time zones to accommodate candidates writing the exam remotely worldwide. Candidates can choose appointments in a time zone other than their own. Candidates should check the time zone of their appointment when scheduling and in their booking confirmation to ensure they do not miss their exam.
If you have been granted test accommodations, please call Prometric’s special needs booking line for your geographic region to schedule your exam appointment. Do not attempt to schedule online as exam appointments with granted test accommodations must be scheduled by telephone.
Once you have scheduled your exam appointment with Prometric, they will send you a 16-digit confirmation number and provide you with additional steps by email. Please keep a record of this number, as you will need it to reschedule/cancel your appointment or to view the details of your appointment on the Prometric website. You will also receive an appointment reminder notice approximately seven days prior to your scheduled appointment.
If you decided that you are not ready to write the MCCQE Part I within your eligibility window or do not think you will be able to take it within one year, you have the option of extending your eligibility window once by an additional 12 months. You will be able to extend your window of eligibility when your current eligibility window is within 60 days of expiring, and not before.
How to extend your window of eligibility:
If you have not taken the MCCQE Part I within your original eligibility window and did not extend your eligibility window, you will be automatically withdrawn and given a partial refund.
You can cancel or reschedule your appointment online on the Prometric website, up to 5 days (120 hours) before the day of the exam. Depending on when you cancel or reschedule, different fees will apply. You will need the 16-digit confirmation number you received when you first scheduled your appointment. The MCC will not facilitate the scheduling or rescheduling of your exam appointment.
If you need to reschedule or cancel up to 30 days before your exam appointment, you will be required to pay a CAN$50+HST fee to Prometric.
If you reschedule or cancel less than 30 days before your exam appointment, you will need to pay a CAN$85+HST fee to Prometric.
If you do not attend your exam appointment, or if you cancel your appointment less than 120 hours (5 days) before the start time of your exam, your application fees will be forfeited.
If you have extenuating circumstances for a late cancellation or absence, you may send supporting documentation to [email protected], and your request for a partial refund will be reviewed.
