Source Verification Request and Educational Credential Assessment services remain available during COVID-19 pandemic

April 3, 2020

Are you an International Medical Graduate (IMG) requiring source verification of your medical credentials or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report? You can still submit your requests through your physiciansapply.ca account.

On March 24, 2020, the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) closed its building to ensure the health and safety of its employees and to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Operations continue during the building closure. With the majority of MCC staff members working remotely, we continue to offer many of the MCC’s services and process requests, including Source Verification Requests (SVR) and ECA requests.

IMGs who wish to practise medicine in Canada must submit medical credential documents for source verification through their physiciansapply.ca account so that their authenticity can be officially confirmed. Once they have submitted their medical degree credentials for source verification, physicians may request other MCC services through their physiciansapply.ca account. When their medical degree or medical school transcript has been successfully source verified, a physician can request an ECA report if they are applying to an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada program, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). An ECA report confirms whether or not an international medical degree/diploma is comparable to a Canadian degree.

During the MCC building closure, candidates are encouraged to submit all documents electronically. For more information, see the Requirements for submitting electronic documents page.

In addition to SVR and ECA services, other MCC services and products are available during this exceptional time, such as our examination Preparatory Products. Of note, the service desk also remains operational to answer your emails, calls and chats during its regular business hours: Monday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Eastern Time (ET) and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., ET.

Candidates and stakeholders are asked to monitor our mcc.ca and physiciansapply.ca websites for further updates as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
