The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) has several awards and fellowships to recognize the achievements and contributions of various individuals and to assist research and development in the field of medical education and assessment.


Outstanding Achievement Award in the Evaluation of Clinical Competence

Awarded to an individual who has made a significant and vital achievement in the field of assessment and evaluation of clinical and professional competence in the health professions. This award is unique as it recognizes a broad range of health disciplines.


Dr. Louis Levasseur Distinguished Service Award

Presented to a Council, staff, or committee member, past or present, or to a person whose collaboration has contributed in an extraordinary manner to the mission and vision of the MCC. The recipient embodies an unwavering commitment to the objectives and principles of Council.


Dr. Ian Bowmer Award for Leadership in Social Accountability

In the spirit of Dr. Bowmer’s advocacy work, this one-time award is given to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated leadership in social accountability within the Schools of Medicine in Canada.


W. Dale Dauphinee Fellowship

This biennial fellowship will enable the recipient to visit and work with leaders in assessment to study or gain experience in the application of new knowledge or techniques or to further their pursuit of a project related to the assessment of physician knowledge, skills, behaviours, and attitudes relevant to the effective practice of medicine. The candidate is on leave to pursue further studies in assessment for medical education, certification, continuing professional competency or psychometrics, or to pursue a formal graduate program in education.
