September 2026 NAC Examination application to reopen in May

March 26, 2026

We are pleased to confirm that application for the September 2026 National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Examination session will, exceptionally, reopen for an additional week in May. Application will be available from May 11 to 15, 2026, and will close at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time (ET), on May 15, 2026.

We understand the challenges this year’s earlier application period created, particularly for those awaiting key CaRMS match second iteration timelines. We hope this additional application window will better support candidates affected by these circumstances.

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) plans to offer the NAC Examination on September 19 and 20, 2026, at various examination centres across Canada. Candidates will be able to apply for this session through their physiciansapply.ca account between May 11 and May 15, 2026, until 11:59 p.m., ET. To access the NAC Examination eligibility requirements, visit our website.

The NAC Examination is standardized across all available examination centres and will be accepted by residency program directors regardless of where the exam took place. You do not have to take the exam in the province in which you will apply for residency.

If you are applying as an international medical student, please have the Student attestation form completed by your medical school. You will be required to upload the completed form when submitting your exam application.

Please be advised that our website continues to be updated with additional information.
