The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is introducing important changes to the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) to modernize the process and make it easier for candidates to obtain their LMCC earlier in their medical career. Effective January 26, 2026, candidates will no longer be required to complete twelve months of postgraduate training to qualify for the LMCC. Instead, eligibility will be based on two clear steps:
This streamlined process means candidates can secure their LMCC earlier in their training path.
As part of these changes, the MCC will introduce digital LMCC issuance as the standard. Candidates who meet eligibility requirements will receive a digital LMCC number automatically or upon request, depending on their exam application timing. Printed Testamurs and LMCC Certificates of Registration (wallet-sized plastic card) will remain available as optional items for a fee, offering flexibility for candidates who wish to obtain a physical document.
To support this transition, the administrative fee to obtain the LMCC will be significantly reduced. The table below outlines how fees and eligibility will apply before and after these changes.
| Application timing and LMCC request | LMCC eligibility criteria | What you receive by default | Fee |
| Current process if you request your LMCC before Jan. 26, 2026 | Passed the MCCQE Part I + Medical degree verified + 12 months of completed postgraduate training | Digital LMCC number + printed Testamur + printed wallet card | $ 267 |
