Announcing the 2026 MCC awards recipients

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of its four distinguished awards. The awards recognize the achievements and contributions of individuals and advance research and development in the field of medical education and assessment of clinical competence.

In support of Dr. Dauphinee’s commitment to learning, this award is given to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated excellence in medical education within the schools of medicine in Canada.

The 2026 award recipients are Dr. Kay Wu and Mr. Justin Phung.

In the spirit of Dr. Bowmer’s advocacy work, this award is given to one medical student and one resident who have demonstrated leadership in social accountability within the schools of medicine in Canada.

The 2026 award recipients are Dr. Alex Young Soo Lee and Dr. Aliyah King.

This distinction recognizes an individual or group who demonstrates sustained excellence in Canadian health care and/or health care research. Its recipients are the people who ensure our health care professionals meet the high standards that Canadians enjoy and expect. This award is unique in that its nominees and recipients come from a broad range of health disciplines.

The 2026 award recipient is the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA), led by Dr. Jon Witt.

This award is presented to a past or present Council, staff, or committee member of the MCC, or to a person whose collaboration has contributed in an extraordinary manner to the vision and mission of the MCC. The recipient embodies an unwavering commitment to the objectives and principles of Council.

The 2026 award recipient is Dr. André F. De Champlain.
