Mike Bannister

Mike Bannister is a digital strategist and seasoned public sector leader with over 25 years of experience driving innovation for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. As Director of Digital Health and Innovation, he oversees policy and strategic investment for critical technology initiatives, including artificial intelligence. His work ensures that large-scale technology projects remain aligned with digital governance standards and long-term public goals.

A key architect of modernization, Mr. Bannister specializes in bridging technical architecture with public policy to design provincial health programs and interoperable digital platforms. His expertise in regulatory landscapes and data stewardship enables him to navigate complex provincial frameworks while fostering a more connected and efficient public service.

Recognized as an authority on international information standards, Mr. Bannister has represented Canada on ISO technical committees as well as in national efforts regarding digital trust and credentials. He is a dedicated contributor to the local innovation ecosystem, serving as a mentor for health-tech start-ups and a founding member of Bounce Health Innovations. Mr. Bannister holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario, and his work in metadata and health innovation has earned multiple awards at the provincial and national levels.
