The MCC elects Dr. Jay Rosenfield as President and welcomes its new members

Ottawa – Following the meeting of Council on September 25, 2018, the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) welcomed Dr. Jay Rosenfield, Vice-Dean of Medical Education at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University in London, Ontario as the new Council President. Dr. Rosenfield has served on Council since 2004 and was Vice-President last year.

“I am honoured to have been chosen as the Medical Council of Canada’s President”, said Dr. Rosenfield. “MCC’s Council is unique in having universities, regulatory authorities, medical students and residents as well as the public at the table. I look forward to working with the Council and other partners within the medical and broader community on an integrated system for assessment and competency maintenance, as well as co-leading the charge on the MCC’s new strategic plan with incoming Executive Director Dr. Maureen Topps.”

Dr. Rosenfield is a developmental paediatrician, completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto and is certified in Paediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the American Board of Pediatrics.

The MCC also welcomed nine new members to Council at the Annual Meeting:

  • Dr. Jean-Sébastien Otis-Carrasqueira (Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec)
  • Dr. Melanie Bechard (Resident Doctors of Canada)

• Student Member:
  • Mr. Mathieu Groulx (Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec)

The MCC strives to achieve the highest level of medical care for Canadians through excellence in evaluation of physicians. It assesses more than 11,000 medical students and graduates every year through examinations across Canada and internationally. The MCC also verifies and stores physician credentials, maintains the Canadian Medical Register, and supports research and development to remain at the forefront of physician assessment.
