Now available: Free TDM Examination preparation resources

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is pleased to announce the release of new, free preparation resources for the Therapeutics Decision-Making (TDM) Examination. These resources are designed to help internationally trained candidates better understand the examination and prepare with greater confidence.

The TDM Examination assesses therapeutic knowledge and clinical decision-making at the level expected of a family physician practising independently and safely in Canada. It evaluates candidates’ ability to make appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management decisions across a range of patient presentations commonly encountered in Canadian family practice. The MCC has developed two new tools to support candidates:

• Eight free sample cases that reflect the style and format of the TDM Examination. Developed using the same process as examination content, the cases provide insight into what candidates can expect on exam day. Each case includes up to three questions, along with the correct answers, detailed rationales explaining why each answer is correct and why the remaining options are not the most appropriate, as well as supporting references.

• Core TDM Examination topics, which outline the common and important areas of family medicine that guide examination development. The topics are based on the TDM Blueprint and help candidates understand the breadth of clinical presentations and therapeutic decision-making that may be assessed. While not every topic appears on every examination, the list provides valuable guidance for planning and focusing study efforts.

No registration or payment is required to access these resources.

These resources reflect the MCC’s ongoing commitment to supporting international medical graduates and internationally trained physicians, in keeping with our strategic plan. By improving access to official examination preparation materials, we aim to help candidates prepare for success as they work toward becoming part of the health care solution for patients in Canada.
