After more than seven years of supporting physicians and health care professionals across Canada in their pursuit of professional growth, we have discontinued MCC 360.
The difficult decision to move away from offering MCC 360 was made to better align with our 2024–2027 strategic priorities. Our chief executive officer, Dr. Viren Naik, affirms that “the value of MCC 360 itself has never been in question.” He recognizes the commitment of the small, core team that delivered this program, which “earned national respect and trust.”
Between 2018 and 2025, more than 8,000 participants engaged with the program from eight different provinces and territories. Most of the participants were invited to complete MCC 360 by their hospitals, regional health authorities, and medical regulatory authorities to support a regular cycle of continuing professional development activities and cyclical quality improvement.
We are extremely proud of the work accomplished through MCC 360, helping physicians and other health care professionals enhance their communication, collaboration, and professional skills through comprehensive multi-source feedback. The program has been a source of pride, especially with the recent addition of a cultural safety component that underscored our commitment to foster more inclusive and safer care environments.
MCC 360 has stood out as an innovative multi-source feedback program, both for its inclusion of patient feedback and for the coaching sessions that supported participants in interpreting their final reports and determining actionable insights.
The development of MCC 360 anchored the program in the CanMEDS framework, and the survey design, questions, reports and program structure consulted existing multi-source feedback research and brought together expert panels. Over time, we developed specialized questionnaires for varying practice environments and health care professionals including episodic care, long-term care, coroners and midwives.
The program was accredited by both the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, allowing physicians to earn CPD credits for completing MCC 360.
While MCC 360 will wind down under our leadership, its legacy is poised to continue. The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) has acquired the intellectual property of MCC 360 and plans to reintroduce the program in 2026 under a new name: MSF360.
We partnered with CPSA in 2017 for our proof-of-concept pilot and they became the first partner to take the program operational.
“There has been extensive research conducted in support of this tool over the years, and CPSA will continue to prioritize and invest in further research, to study the inter-reliability between the quantitative and qualitative data collected by participants in this program, says Phong Van, CPSA’s Director of Continuing Competence. “Our goal is to ensure MSF360 stays current and valuable, and health care professionals are supported in offering the highest quality of patient care.”
We are pleased that CPSA will continue to offer the program, giving physicians the opportunity to self-reflect and strengthen essential skills that contribute to better patient outcomes. Our organizations are collaborating closely to ensure a smooth transition for participating Alberta physicians, and for other organizations who plan to continue using the program.
