Exam Oversight Committee

The purpose of the Exam Oversight Committee (EOC) is to ensure that the examinations offered by the MCC are:

Relevant and appropriate to assess the attributes expected of medical graduates entering residency and independent practice in Canada
Administered through validated, standardized, and reliable processes and formats in relation to the intended interpretations and uses of examination results

More specifically, the EOC is tasked with approving new examination content and objectives; ensuring examination integrity; managing incidents, procedural irregularities, and irregular behaviour by one or more candidate(s); reconsidering examination results; and ratifying examination results.

The EOC reports to, but functions independently from, the MCC Council.

Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I test committees

Composed of physicians and other professionals, the MCC Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I test committees support the development and maintenance of examination content to ensure the delivery of high-quality, relevant, independent examinations. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing examination items, reviewing statistical performance of items after an examination, and the annual approval of test forms.

Therapeutics Decision-Making Examination Committee

Composed primarily of family physicians, the Therapeutics Decision-Making (TDM) Examination Committee is responsible for developing new content, updating existing content, and approving examination test forms. After each examination administration, the members of the committee validate the answer key of the cases included on the examination and participate in marking the examination.

The National Assessment Collaboration International Medical Graduate Alliance

The National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) International Medical Graduate (IMG) Alliance provides a forum for sharing best practices and novel approaches across jurisdictions and organizations related to the assessment of IMGs in Canada. The group’s purpose is to advise on current initiatives as well as advance IMG assessments in response to current challenges and future needs of IMGs, organizations, and jurisdictions.

NAC Practice-Ready Assessment Working Group

The NAC Practice-Ready Assessment (PRA) Working Group provides a forum for sharing best practices and addressing common challenges across the pan-Canadian PRA programs. The working group provides general review, participation in and monitoring of pan-Canadian PRA processes and activities to ensure sustainability of common materials and confidence between PRA programs and medical regulators. This group also supports research activities, and the maintenance, development, and continuous improvement of common tools, including NAC PRA standards, policies, and guidelines
