Ainslie Mihalchuk, MD CCFP FCFP, is the Registrar and CEO of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) and is a lecturer at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine.
She spent over a decade in healthcare administration, including as Chief Medical Officer at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, during a significant provincial health system transformation.
As Registrar and CEO at CPSM, she draws on her experience in transformational leadership to shape regulation by fostering trust, accountability, and integrity in the profession.
She joined CPSM as an Assistant Registrar in January 2020 and began a five-year process of redefining self-regulation. She restructured CPSM’s assessment programs by adopting a quality improvement mindset to better balance the risks with the appropriate outcomes to reduce or mitigate harm. This restorative approach to regulation has led to increased engagement from the profession and outcomes that demonstrate improvement.
A common anchor throughout her career has been a focus on quality of care and a commitment to creating better outcomes for patients receiving medical care and the medical professionals delivering it.
Dr. Mihalchuk has served on various professional associations, including the Manitoba College of Family Physicians, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada.
She has maintained a clinical practice during her leadership roles to remain connected to the full spectrum of challenges and issues that arise in the healthcare system.
She graduated from the University of Winnipeg with the highest distinction and obtained her medical degree and BSc Med from the University of Manitoba.
