Candidates must have obtained or be expected to obtain an acceptable medical degree from an acceptable medical school to be eligible for Medical Council of Canada services and assessments.

An acceptable school is defined as a

  • Canadian or US medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools.

An acceptable medical degree must be from an acceptable school (as defined above) and the medical school listing in the World Directory must have a Canada Sponsor Note.2

1 The World Directory combines the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research’s International Medical Education Directory and the World Federation for Medical Education Avicenna Directory’s data.

2 Certain medical schools might be acceptable to Canada within defined periods.
