Manitoba joins pan-Canadian application portal for medical registration
Ottawa – The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) announced today that Manitoba is now accepting applications for medical registration through the national portal, physiciansapply.ca. Manitoba is the ninth medical regulatory jurisdiction in Canada to integrate physiciansapply.ca into its application process, and the third to do so in early 2017 along with Prince Edward Island and Yukon.
physiciansapply.ca is a centralized system for exam registration that also receives, reviews, verifies and stores the credentials and documents of candidates from across Canada and around the world. Candidates are able to securely and easily apply for MCC exams, view exam results, submit credentials and documents for verification, access a translation service for medical credentials, and send applications to specific Canadian jurisdictions.
“We are pleased to join the ranks of all regulatory authorities who are currently accepting applications through this portal,” said Dr. Anna Ziomek, Registrar of the CPSM. “As well as providing broad access to assessment and credentialing services, physiciansapply.ca will facilitate the review of applications, and provide a common pathway for physicians applying to Manitoba.”
The project was funded by Employment and Social Development Canada, the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada and its members, and the MCC.
The application for medical registration is now open to all new candidates for independent registration in Manitoba. Those candidates include Canadian medical residents, practising physicians relocating from other Canadian jurisdictions to Manitoba, and physicians from outside of the country.
“We are extremely pleased to have the CPSM using the application for medical registration process,” said Dr. Ian Bowmer, Executive Director of the MCC. “We are looking forward to completing the onboarding for the remaining regulatory authorities, to provide candidates with an integrated and streamlined medical registration process across Canada.”
Once the process is fully deployed across the country, candidates will be able to use the system to apply to one or several jurisdictions. Each jurisdiction will continue to assess and process applications based on its own legislation and policies.
