MCCQE Part I Report to the Dean
The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I Report to the Dean is provided each year at a Dean’s request. For Canadian universities, the report is normally provided four or five months after the spring results are confirmed by the Central Examination Committee meeting. For non-Canadian universities, requests should be received by July 15, as reports are processed between July and September, with delivery at the end of September.

The MCCQE Part I Report to the Dean contains the following sections:
Blueprint overview and understanding this report
Section 1 – Total score mean performance
In this section, the total mean score and pass rate for candidates from your medical program are compared to other candidate groups.
- Your school’s total test takers
- Your school’s first-time test takers
- Canadian Medical Graduates (CMG), first-time test takers (known as our reference group)
- International Medical Graduates (IMG), first-time test takers
- First-time test takers
- CMG, repeat test takers
- IMG, repeat test takers
- Repeat test takers
- Total test takers
This section also includes the distribution of your school’s total scores in comparison to that of CMG, first-time test takers
Section 2 – Subscore mean performance
This section considers your candidates’ performance across the two categories assessed by the new Blueprint: Dimensions of Care and Physician Activities, as compared to those of the seven other subgroups (listed above).
Section 3 – MCC objective mean performance
This section considers how students from your medical school performed on various broad MCC objective categories. This section is comprised of a table listing broad objective categories for which students scored at least 80% correct, and a second table listing broad objective categories for which students scored 40% correct or below. It also presents the 20 broad MCC objective categories with the highest and lowest performance as compared to CMG, first-time test takers. Finally, the overall performance in the seven CanMeds roles (Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator, Leader, Health Advocate, Scholar, and Professional) is presented.
Section 4 – Historical performance
This section displays figures and tables that represent your school’s historical pass rates, mean total score and mean subscore performance over time, in comparison to that of CMG, first-time test takers. As a new scale and new pass score was established in 2018, historical results are provided only back to 2018.
Section 5 – Mean performance by campus
This section is only provided to schools with distributed campuses. Tabular representations comparing each campus pass rate, mean total score, and mean subscores are presented in this section. Historical pass rates and total and subscore performance by campus are also provided.
