Nunavut the latest jurisdiction to join pan-Canadian application portal for medical registration

Nunavut – The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) and the Government of Nunavut, announced today that Nunavut is now accepting applications for medical registration through the national portal, physiciansapply.ca. Nunavut is the 12th medical regulatory authority in Canada to integrate physiciansapply.ca into its application process.

physiciansapply.ca is a centralized system for exam application that also receives, reviews, verifies and stores the credentials and documents of candidates from across Canada and around the world. Candidates can securely and easily apply for MCC exams, view exam results, submit credentials and documents for verification, access a translation service for medical credentials, and send applications to specific Canadian jurisdictions.

“We are pleased to join the team of regulatory authorities who are currently accepting applications through this portal,” said Minister of Health, George Hickes. “For candidates interested in applying with Nunavut, physiciansapply.ca will expedite the review process, eliminate paper applications and more efficiently facilitate the way information is shared throughout the territory.”

The project was funded by Employment and Social Development Canada, the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada and its members, and the MCC.

The Application for Medical Registration is now open to all new candidates for registration in Nunavut. Those candidates include Canadian medical residents, practicing physicians relocating from other Canadian jurisdictions to Nunavut, and physicians from outside of the country.

“We are extremely pleased to have the Government of Nunavut using the application for the medical registration process,” said Dr. Maureen Topps, Executive Director and CEO at the MCC. “This process leverages the functionality in the candidate’s physiciansapply.ca account, and provides an easy-to-use gateway to the medical regulatory authorities across Canada.”

Once the process is fully deployed across Canada, candidates will be able to use the system to apply to one or more jurisdictions. Each jurisdiction will continue to assess, and process applications based on its own legislation and policies.
